This remote and undeveloped area is a combination of desert, coastline, beaches, and rugged mountains. You'll find volcanic rock formations, sandy beaches, arroyos, and expansive desert plains filled with giant cardón cacti. The coastline varies from calm, swimmable coves to dramatic rocky shores and steep cliffs, with water that ranges from deep blue to clear turquoise.
Be sure to keep an eye out for whales, dolphins, sea lions, seabirds, rays, and more. This is one of the most marine rich areas on the planet.
Sail along the rugged Baja California coastline, where the desert meets the sea. The landscape in this region is like nothing you've ever seen before. Hike through the rugged, mountainous desert, dotted with giant cardón cacti and colorful flowers. Soak up the sun on a remote white-sand beach. Come April and May, the winds are in our favor to sail further North in the Sea of Cortez to follow in the footsteps of author and explorer, John Steinbeck.
In the 1940s, Steinbeck began his epic voyage in the “Aquarium of the World” as a research project, later writing The Log from the Sea of Cortez. Today’s voyage is inspired by that log, visiting historic sites, searching for whales, hiking desert landscapes, and snorkeling with sea lions.
