Europe’s rivers are first-class destinations, offering sublime natural landscapes, art, architecture, history, and cuisine. Whether it’s the Danube, Rhine or Rhône, or the Main, Moselle or Saône – the ships of Riverside Luxury Cruises will bring you to each destination in comfort and style. All you have to do is go with the flow of the river.

It’s the subject of songs, poems, and melodies. And not without reason – the Danube cannot be surpassed for natural beauty. It winds through 10 different countries and four capitals — Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, and Belgrade, more than any other river in the world. Its cities, towns, and villages beckon with intriguing histories and architectural nods to the people and cultures that came before. One of its most impressive sections is the Wachau, a pastoral cultural landscape protected by UNESCO. You won’t want to miss a single view.

The Rhine begins amid the crisp mountain air of Switzerland, flowing more than 750 miles through the forests, pasturelands, and valleys of Liechtenstein, France, Austria, Germany, and the Netherlands before entering the North Sea. Its banks are lined with inviting towns, villages, and cities, while medieval castles, clifftop fortresses, vineyard-lined gorges, rushing waterfalls, and pretty river islands enhance the riverscape. All of these combine into a rich tapestry that has inspired writers, musicians, and artists to immortalize the Rhine in romantic epics and myths.

Flanked by the exalted waters of its Rhine and Danube siblings, it would be easy for the much smaller Main to pale by comparison. Amazingly, it doesn’t. With roots in the beautiful Bavarian countryside, the Main is the longest river flowing entirely in Germany. It exudes a personality all its own and is an alluring showcase of orchards and vineyards, Spargel (asparagus) fields, famous castles and fortresses, and world-class wine cellars.

The gentle waters of the Moselle are where the best parts of the ancient world come together to form a traveler’s paradise. Originating from the forested peaks of the Vosges mountains in France, the Moselle flows a short distance through Luxembourg before its most famous section in Germany. Not only do cities like Trier fascinate with 2,000-year-old Roman-era ruins, but the river valley is rife with Roman-planted vineyards that today produce some of the world’s most exquisite white wines.

From the Swiss Alps to the Mediterranean, the Rhône winds through France’s most enchanting regions—Burgundy, Rhône-Alpes, and Provence. It is a river for gourmets and lovers of life’s finer pleasures. It drifts past magical cities like Arles and Avignon, through fields fragrant with lavender and wild herbs, and into the untouched beauty of the Camargue—where wild horses run free, and flamingos strut across sunlit salt marshes. The Rhône speaks to all the senses. A journey not just through geography—but through savoir vivre itself.

The Saône is the quintessential French waterway. It ambles past poplar forests, moors and vineyards, grazing Charolais cattle, and colorful villages where residents sip café au lait in centuries-old squares. Also dotting the Saône’s environs are world-class cities such as Chalon-sur-Saône, Mâcon, Tournus, and Lyon. Yet even with these grand highlights, the Saône remains a smaller, more peaceful river.

On Riverside, luxury means having a choice. Choose your perfect package and pick from an array of unique excursion options in each port.
