Our goal is to get you off the ship and out exploring as much as possible. We reposition the ship at night, so each day you wake up at a new remote anchorage ready to take on the days adventures. Excursions are offered at various levels, so you always have something to suit your interest and ability. For example, one afternoon you may choose between an interpretive shore walk, a hard charger hike, or a guided kayak, all led by our expert team of on board expedition guides.

Kayaking

Join a guided kayaking excursion with one of your expert guides to paddle among the ice, along rocky shorelines, or in a quiet cove. Open paddling opportunity allows you to go at your own pace by kayak or SUP.

Skiff Tours

One of the best opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography, these small boats are quick and nimble to get you up close to everything. Don't forget your binoculars!

Snorkeling

Don 14mm of neoprene and try your hand at Alaskan snorkeling! This cold water experience is something you're not soon to forget. Don't worry, there will be hot cocoa waiting for you.

Bushwhacking

An UnCruise special! You won't find many maintained trails in these remote corners of Alaska. Follow your guide through the woods, over logs, and under branches in places not many may have stepped foot before.

Shore Walks

Perfect for those who like to move at a slower pace. Follow your guide and keep an eye out for things big and small along the way. We have trekking poles for you to borrow for extra balance.

Wildlife Viewing

Whether out on a kayak or skiff, or standing on the bow or in the bridge, keep your binoculars and cameras handy! You can hope to see whales, orca, sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, porpoise, black bears, brown bears, and more.

More About Wildlife

Whales: Orcas can be seen throughout the cruising season, while humpback whales return in force from June through August, often showcasing dramatic breaching and even bubble-net feeding.
Bears: Peak bear activity is associated with the salmon runs, but in the spring you'll find them on the beach searching for food at low tide.
More wildlife: Sea otters, bald eagles, moose and countless seabirds round out the experience.

When Is the Best Time to Go?

The Best Time to Visit Southeast Alaska

This depends on what is most important to you. UnCruise operates Alaska voyages in spring, summer and fall, each offering different opportunities.

Shoulder Season (April–May): Fewer crowds, excellent value and the best chance to spot the Northern Lights, especially in April. Cooler, drier conditions make for rewarding exploration. Without salmon running, find bears venturing to the shoreline to look for food. Snow melt creates dramatic waterfalls.
Peak Season (June–August): Longer days, warmer temperatures and peak wildlife activity, particularly whales and bears.
Early Fall (September): Quieter ports to start and end your trip, continued wildlife sightings and prime bear-viewing during late salmon runs. Wetter weather and cooler temperatures as the leaves start to change colors. Chances return to see the Northern Lights when skies are clear.
